1. You must be an American citizen.
2. You must be a Maryland resident and a student at a Maryland College.
3. You must be taking German courses at the 300 level or higher.
4. You must have a GPA of 3.0 or above.
5. The application must include two letters of recommendation, one from your German instructor and one from another college instructor.
6. The application must include a transcript of college courses. The transcript must show that German is the declared major.
7. You must write an essay in German on why you chose to major in German. The essay must be at least 300 words. 
8. You may receive the award only once.
